"Giant Crushed Cans" by Caroline Tronel
Date
8 December 2023
Mondrian Hong Kong unveiled an exhibition by French artist Caroline Tronel, known as “The French Girl.” Tronel’s “Giant Crushed Cans” installation explores themes of sustainability and consumer culture through bold, thought-provoking artworks.
The exhibition features two large pink Crushed Cans alongside smaller versions, accompanied by a video documenting the cans on a beach, symbolising the journey from waste to art. Tronel’s signature style fuses upcycling with a powerful message about environmental consciousness, encouraging viewers to rethink their relationship with disposable culture.
Having made her mark in Hong Kong with murals, installations, and collaborations, Tronel’s work is a celebration of creativity and sustainability. The Crushed Cans project highlights the impact of individual actions, blending art and activism to spark conversations around waste and reimagination.
This exhibition sets the tone for The Corner Shop as a space dedicated to exploring the intersection of art, community, and culture. As the first artist to take over the space, Tronel’s installation represents a meaningful step in Mondrian Hong Kong’s vision of bringing innovative, thought-provoking art to the forefront of the city’s cultural landscape.
