"RUBIKS" by Anton Poon

Inspired by his desire to convey statement through creation, Anton Poon's sculptural masterpiece, 'RUBIKS', now viewable through the looking-glass of Mondrian Hong Kong's street-side gallery, The Corner Shop, contemplates everyday encounters and emotions through geometric form, contrasting color and visual lightness.

As its second exhibition of visionary designers since opening in mid December 2023, Anton’s sculptures 'Lunging', 'Compass' and 'Bestowal', composed of painted carbon steel to evoke human interaction and relationships, focuses on the contrast between distance and intimacy, emotion and connection, and complexity and delicacy.

Showcasing daily life experiences, viewers, guests and passers-by are drawn into the sculptural forms appearing at The Corner Shop, enabling each individual experience to connect to each structure, and ultimately, the unveiling of one’s inner potential.

Accented colour, light, lines and hue merge to expose a relationship between environment, audience and artist, inspiring self reflection and self-definition. The continual shift in light from dawn to dusk throughout the day, continuously transforms the aesthetic of each sculpture, revealing a connection between colour, human and the passing of time.
